Welcome to St Saviour’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Reception Class page!

Autumn 1 2017 Special Me: How are things changing for me?

The first few weeks were all about settling-in to a new class, staff and routines, some children came from our own nursery and some children from other settings, though we were all new to Reception!

We started by thinking about what we can find out and do at school, about what happens at lunchtimes and getting ready for P.E. We then investigated the question “What makes me special?”, focusing on the story of Elmer for Black history month, learning that Elmer was different as each of us is different and that it is good to be different.

We ended the half-term by learning more about and celebrating a special time of year for people who are Hindus and Sikhs, Diwali. The children listened to the story of Rama and Sita, sang songs, made cards and clay thumb pots, which they decorated to become Divas, made and ate Diwali sweets!
